Weight Loss Means for Teens
under weight lossMost of the posts in this blog have talked about the need and solution for losing weight amongst adults, as this tends to be the largest group by percentage of people that are overweight. But we mustn’t forget the younger generation, especially teens who are also fashion conscious and want to look good but are also swayed by the technologies of the day that keep them sitting around the house playing computer generated games rather than enjoying the outdoors like previous generations did.
Of course, past generations of teens didn’t have the barrage of computer wizardry to keep them indoors and even the TV wasn’t always enough to keep them from their friends who were playing far cooler games outdoors. There was skateboarding, rollerblading, cycling, playing soccer, volleyball, basketball and all manner of other sporty games that kept those teens active and less likely to gain weight through eating a poor diet because their metabolisms were racing ahead of their body’s ability to store fats. At least that was most of them!
It was also a time when there were far fewer processed foods on the supermarket shelves and the selection of additives was not so wide or varied as it is today, so that in general, mothers tended to cook wholesome, home cooked meals more often than the teens would eat junk.
So by looking back historically, we can already see the things that today’s teens need to be doing to reverse the effects of a poor diet coupled with little or no exercise and the corresponding weight gain that is keeping them from looking like the stars of TV and movies, music and fashion that they crave to be like. The hard part is in separating the teens from their techie machines and getting the to venture out into the daylight to get some activity going. Its harder when their friends are also becoming hermits in their own homes glued to their Playstation monitors. Concerned parents ought to get together to unite in getting their teens to get out of the house and meet up to get involved in some active outdoor stuff. Then you’d see not only a change in physical appearance, but also of mood and attitude, because when you get more daylight, your mood and attitude improve.
When you know the best ways of providing teens with the means to lose weight, you do them a great service by helping them to improve their health not only for the present but also for the future as well. Because the weight the lose now will reflect on the way they look in 10, 20, 30 or more years into the future.
